Whether you're stuck at the bottom of a lava-filled dungeon or are meticulously making your way through an icy cave, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana has many sights for you to take in as you traverse the island, running into formidable foes at every twist and turn, making everything feel that much more rewarding.
And, as expected, the further you venture into the unknown, the more dangerous and powerful the enemies become. This is where we end up with Gildias, Guardian of the Icy Depths, one of the more challenging encounters in the game, forcing you to utilize your newly found Bracelet to its full potential!
Gildias, Guardian Of The Icy Depths Overview In Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana
Gildias, Guardian of the Icy Depths, is the only boss found within the Icebound Cave Dungeon and serves as the eighth boss in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana. As we are just beyond the halfway point of Adol's adventure, you can expect these encounters to only get more challenging from here.
Before diving into this encounter, we strongly recommend having the Banded Set, which can all be purchased from Cynthia in Redmont Town. We also recommend having the Banded Slayer at Max Level, with the Banded Mail being at Level 2, as you likely won't be able to fully upgrade it yet. The Banded Shield can remain at Level 1, so long as you have the other upgrades!
As mentioned above, the entire Banded Set can be purchased from Cynthia in Redmont Town, which is the best equipment you can currently have in the game at this point. The Banded Slayer is 24,000 Gold, with the Banded Shield running you 16,000 Gold and the Banded Mail costing 18,000 Gold. You likely already have the Sword, at least, and the Gold, especially if you've been exploring a lot!

Recommended Level | Level 30 |
Level 30 is the level we recommend you be when facing Gildias, as it has a large health pool and can deal tons of damage. This will ensure that you can deal adequate damage to the Guardian of the Icy Depth and take some of what it dishes out, allowing you to focus on the fight instead of worrying about dying in two hits.
Of course, having better equipment will also boost those Stats quite well also, which is why we strongly urge you to drop the Gold on the Banded Set. It's just that good. If you are only Level 28, we strongly recommend farming until you're Level 30, as every little bit will help in this encounter!
How To Defeat Gildias, Guardian Of The Icy Depths In Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana
This is a bizarre encounter in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, as you will primarily be forced to use your newly obtained Terra Bracelet to deal any sort of damage to Gildias, which kinda devolves into you spamming it in the first half of the fight, then having to lock in for the remainder of it, as that's when things get hairy.
Make no mistake, Gildias is a very challenging opponent, but once you learn the trick to its gimmicks, you will almost be drunk with power, constantly exploiting it until you suddenly can't do it nearly as much or as frequently. This encounter is pretty sick from start to finish, so it's a treat to experience, especially for the first time!
Gildias - Icy Gust
When the encounter begins, Gildias almost always performs his Icy Gust attack, pushing Adol toward the bottom of the screen while simultaneously launching large chunks of ice at him. It can be difficult to see the faint chunks of ice due to the effects on the screen, but they should become clearer as they get closer.
You can try dodging them by moving to the left or right, or you can use your Terra Bracelet to smash through them, taking no damage if you time it right. Both methods will work, but we prefer using the Terra Bracelet as it poses the least risk!
Adol - Terra Bracelet Shenanigans
Once your screen returns to normal, run up to Gildias, charge your Terra Bracelet, and let it rip, slamming yourself into the towering dragon with great force, causing it to become staggered. Congratulations, you figured out the primary gimmick of this encounter and can now abuse it relentlessly.
Staggering Gildias allows you to run up to its head and unleash a barrage of attacks on it, dealing substantial damage. If you are close to Gildas, always use your Terra Bracelet. Just start spamming it, as only a few actions in the early goings will force you to respect them.
Even then, a well-timed and placed Terra Bracelet attack will make you immune to most incoming attacks of Gildias', so you don't have to worry about getting interrupted or badly injured in the early going of this fight. It's a very potent weapon that will carry you through this encounter!
Gildias - Icy Stomp
A commonly used attack of Gildas' is its Icy Stomp, having it slam its feet on the ground a few times, causing large shards of ice to travel across the ground in all sorts of directions. While there will be many shards of ice on the arena, there will be many gaps, allowing you to run up close to Gildas and use your Terra Bracelet!
Gildias - Tail Slam
Following that is Gildias' Tail Slam, which has it violently slam its tail on the ground with lots of force, creating a large shockwave that covers the area in shards of ice. When you see Gildias turn its back to you, try running to the left or right to get beside them, then unleash your Terra Bracelet.
If you happen to get caught within the area of effect, a well-timed Terra Bracelet charge will send you through the shards of ice, negating all damage and staggering Gildias. But that will be substantially more challenging to pull off, so try getting outside the shockwave!
Gildias - Ice Breath
One of Gildias' most underused attacks is its Ice Breath, which blows a steady stream of ice onto the ground directly beneath it, covering the area in ice and shards of ice. If you're close to Gildias when it begins this attack, you know what to do, as you are in perfect range to let the Terra Bracelet do its job.
However, if you are far away, you must be cautious, as Gildias will immediately go into its next action, which can be tricky to avoid on top of this. Be patient if you are further away, and use your Terra Bracelet to break the shards of ice before focusing on Gildias!
Gildias - Flying Ice Barrage
Dropping Gildias' health down past the halfway point will introduce a new move into the mix, having it perform its Flying Ice Barrage, where it flies high into the air and off your screen before dropping large shards of ice onto the arena below, dealing substantial damage if it hits you.
Fortunately, you can see where the shards of ice will land thanks to a large area of effect circle that appears on the ground, allowing you to avoid them entirely. Don't get careless here, and always position yourself near another open part of the arena, as it will drop A LOT of shards!
Adol - Terra Bracelet And Double Boost
Let Gildias land, then quickly run up to it and let your Terra Bracelet rip, then activate your Double Boost to replenish some of your HP and carve away a large chunk of its health. You want to do this as soon as it lands, as Gildias has a tendency to spam its Flying Ice Barrage, and you cannot hit it during the entirety of the attack!
Gildias - Flying Biting Grab
When you have Gildias on the ropes, and you think you've seen all it is capable of, it will pull out its Flying Biting Grab, which is its secret weapon. This attack is downright evil and incredibly deceptive. Like the previous attack, Gildias will fly upward and off your screen, making you think it will begin dropping shards of ice onto the arena again.
But that's where you're wrong; whenever its health is this low (Around 600 HP remaining), Gildias will swoop in from the side of the arena in an attempt to bite and grab Adol. If it successfully lands this attack, it will pick Adol up and fly up the cave with him, ultimately dropping him down a very long shaft filled with sharp helictites.
You must move to the left or right to evade them, but you are falling so fast that it is nearly impossible. Each time you hit one of the sharp rocks, you will take TONS of damage. If you don't have a lot of health, you are likely dead here. So avoid this at all costs.
The moment you have Gildias' health at critical levels, and you see it leave the screen, Double Jump either toward the screen or away from it as he swoops in to evade the attack entirely. When it lands, hit it with your Terra Bracelet and finish it off!

It is slower than original scripts like HTML2FPDF and produces larger files when using Unicode fonts, but supports CSS styles etc. and has a lot of enhancements. Supports almost all languages, including RTL (Arabic and Hebrew) and CJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean). Supports nested block-level elements (such as P, DIV),
