Path of Exile 2 is all about leveling up where you can live the power fantasy of slaughtering enemies with the press of a couple of buttons. There are two ways to gain power which include your gear and the skill tree.
As you play through the game, you'll be leveling up your passive skill tree which will offer you a variety of boosts and bonuses. Eventually, you will be able to select an Ascendance class that will offer some additional passives that will direct your character towards a particular playstyle and enhance your build. Here's how to earn more Ascendancy points in the game.
Ascendancy is a key gameplay mechanic in Path of Exile 2 where you get to enhance your build from being a generic class to something more specific. Every class has two Ascendancy paths you can select after completing the first Trial of Ascendancy. Once you reach Act 2, you'' have to defeat the boss, Balabala The Traitor in Traitor's Passage.
Upon defeating the boss, you will receive a quest to complete the Trials of Sekhemas, which will be your first one in the game. These Trials are quite difficult as you have to clear multiple rooms and defeat a final boss. However, apart from the enemies who can hurt you, there's an added mechanic called the Honour system.
While the recommended power for Trial of Sekhemas is level 22, its better if you level up a bit before trying it out. This is because the boss at the end is tough, and you'll have to maintain at least 50% Honour before you enter the final room. This means you cannot lose Honour against basic enemies and should be wiping it away as swiftly as possible.
You'll find the Honour bar at the bottom of the screen when inside a Trial of Ascendancy. This bar goes down whenever you take damage from any source within the Trial. If it goes to zero, the Trial will fail, and you'll have to start right from the beginning.
Upon successful completion of the Trial of Sekhemas, you'll get the chance to select an Ascendancy Path and also receive two Ascendancy points to level up. It's also important to mention that to begin the first Trial you'll need an item called Balbala's Barya which is dropped upon defeating the boss.
Every Trial of Ascendancy requires a similar coin to access it. The Balbala's Barya has infinite usages until you succeed in the Trial of Sekhemas and receive your Ascendancy Path. However, you can also find similar coins while farming, but those are limited and will disappear upon failing the Trial.
In the early access, you have access to only two Trials:
Here are the various Ascendancy classes you can unlock after you complete the Trial of Sekhemas in the game:
|
Ascendancy | ||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Sorceress | Stormweaver | ||||||||||||||
Warrior | Titan | ||||||||||||||
Ranger | Deadeye | ||||||||||||||
Witch | Blood Mage | ||||||||||||||
Monk | Invoker | ||||||||||||||
Mercenary | Witchhunter |
Completing the Trial of Sekhemas grants you two Ascendancy points. However, that isn't enough to refine your build as you'll need more. The next step to earning more Ascendancy points is the Trial of Chaos that you'll find in Act 3.
The Trial of Chaos is extremely difficult, but if you complete it, you'll be rewarded with two Ascendancy points. The early access of the game ends in Act 3 and if you played the campaign and both Trials, then by the end of your first run, you should have four Ascendancy points.
The next step is to play the Trials of Ascendancy in Cruel difficulty. Since Path of Exile 2 is in early access, you don't have much to do after you finish the campaign for the first time in Standard difficulty.
While you'll receive more Trial coins from farming the map, rerunning the same Trial of Ascendancy at the same difficulty won't grant you Ascendancy points. You'll need to run them at a higher difficulty. However, you'll receive loot, so its always worth farming if you are looking for gear and weapons.
Therefore, to access the end-game, you'll have to play Act I to Act III once again in Cruel difficulty and this includes both the Trials of Ascendancies. Once you complete them in Cruel mode, you'll receive your final four Ascendancy points. You'll need the Djinn Barya coins to access the Trial of Sekhemas and the Inscribed Ultimatum coin to access the Trial of Chaos.
In the early access, you can receive a maximum of eight Ascendancy points, and more will be added once the final three Acts are released upon the launch of version 1.0 in a future update. However, the eight points that you'll receive for now will be enough to provide you with a substantial power boost and create a build to tackle endgame farming.
