While json.RawMessage offers flexibility, it requires manual handling of the data structure and may not be suitable in all cases. Alternative approaches include:

  • Using Interfaces: Define an interface that encapsulates the common behavior between the array and single-element cases, and then use the interface type in the struct definition.
  • Creating Separate Structs: As suggested in the problem, create separate structs for the array and single-element scenarios and use type assertion in the UnmarshalJSON method to determine which struct to use.

The best approach depends on the specific requirements of the application and the complexity of the JSON data.
