No matter the character's rarity, when you first pull one in Disney Pixel RPG, they all start at level one and need upgrading or experience to grow stronger. Kind of like in life, huh? Well, gaining the experience to level up naturally can take a while and you can quickly run low on upgrade pixels, which are the means of accelerating the process.
As you play Disney Pixl RPG, there are a few ways to really rack up those pixels, making it so that you can upgrade whoever you want, whenever you please. This guide will cover what those ways are.
What Are Upgrade Pixels?
Upgrade pixels is an item that takes on the form of a cute, little bottle filled with colorful data. Their use in the game is not only for upgrading your characters but also used for crafting.
The ways you obtain these pixels are numerous. Some examples are:
- Logging in.
- Completing story stages.
- Completing bonus stages.
- Completing expeditions.
- Buying them from the Crystals shop.
Both leveling up your characters and crafting are very important to Disney Pixel RPG, which means that you are constantly pulling from this singular resource. And while there are quite a few ways to replenish your supply, they either take time, money, or you've completed some of these methods and aren't guaranteed any new pixels from them again.
So, exactly how are you supposed to amass upgrade pixels?
Replay Story Stages
Best For New Players
Whether you've completed all of the chapters or only a couple, you can go back and replay any story mission you'd like. You won't get a lot of upgrade pixels by replaying chapter stages, but it's a starting point.
Find a chapter your party beats without fail. The example used here is the hard version of Chapter 3, Stage 2. Next to the start button is the auto-battle feature. Every time your energy meter is full, throw that puppy on auto and watch your characters beat that same stage as many times as your energy level allows.
This isn't the best way to nab the most upgrade pixels, but it's a way to get you started on stages you know you're already capable of beating. This tip works best when you are just starting out and are struggling to break past a certain stage or boss.
Replaying Bonus Stages 1-1 And 3-1
Stage 1-1 For Beginners, Stage 3-1 As Your Progress
Giving you much more than the story stages are the bonus stages. When you first start playing the game and you want to start upgrading your characters before taking on more story stages, replay Bonus 1-1. You'll get around 60 upgrade pixels every time you play this bonus stage.
Rewards, especially for the bonus stages, aren't a singular consistent number. Any numbers provided are based on personal experience within the range that stage provides.
Once you've gotten some higher-level characters and have unlocked Bonus 3-1, you'll get closer to 150 upgrade pixels for each attempt.
No matter your progress, you can replay these as many times as your energy allows, racking up hundreds of upgrade pixels without even really needing to look at your phone thanks to the auto-battle feature. And to maximize your number of upgrade pixels, run through these stages every time your energy is full again.
Expeditions
As you continue to play through the story, you will ultimately unlock the expeditions. Unlike the story or bonus stages, these are not active rounds of combat you either play through or have on auto-battle. They instead have you send out characters on a quest to gather resources in the background.
Both the Princess Saga: Aurora and Zootopia: Infiltration Mission expeditions supply you with upgrade pixels.
Curious about what rewards an expedition will provide? Click on the little chest on the top right of each one and it will break down the type of resources your characters will find.
You can have characters questing for up to 20 hours at a single time. But you can recall them whenever you'd like and send them back out. Every ten minutes, your characters will have a shot at finding items on that expedition.
The best thing to do is pretty simple, just be sure you recall them before the 20 hours are up and immediately send a team back out. If you want to be as efficient as possible, having notifications turned on will alert you when an expedition is over.
Or, you can check how much time is left before you know you won't be looking at your phone (before going to sleep, before work or school starts, etc.) If you know you'll be asleep for, hopefully, the next eight hours and your expeditions are almost over, recall your team and send them back out before catching those z's. Then you'll literally be farming pixels in your sleep.
Replaying Battle Challenge Levels
Whenever a Battle Challenge is happening in the game, you want to replay the highest level you can complete on auto-battle as often as possible. Why? BC points and the Exchange Shop.
Now, you can't use auto-battle the traditional way like you can in the story and bonus stages where you decide how many times you want the game to play through the same stage.
However, you can have auto-battle turned on and, once you've claimed victory, you can hit retry and keep this up as long as you want to. Racking up as many BC points as possible will let you buy a multitude of excellent items while the event is running. And that includes upgrade pixels.
There are three tiers of purchasing for upgrade pixels. The quantity you get remains the same, but the cost goes up as you deplete the stock of each tier.
Now, the Exchange Shop has a lot of goodies you can buy, many of the items being harder to come by than upgrade pixels. But it's always an option, especially if you're struggling to beat the higher levels of the challenge and need to level up your characters to keep climbing the ladder.
So, while of course, this is a great way to secure even more upgrade pixels, take a look at all the items in stock. Once you've purchased everything you deem to be a higher priority, then use any remaining BC points you earn or have left over on upgrade pixels.
Final Tips On Farming Upgrade Pixels
Looking over these options individually might make it look like you still won't be getting a lot of upgrade pixels. However, when following more than one of these steps at a time, the numbers will start to add up.
The biggest obstacle is your in-game energy. Story and bonus stages both require energy. But expeditions don't, and although there isn't always a Battle Challenge active, when there is, you don't need to use energy to participate.
So a great way to keep earning more upgrade pixels is to start both expeditions, use all your energy on bonus stage 3-1 (if you have it unlocked) and, while you wait for your energy to refill, keep replaying the current Battle Challenge, if one is currently running.
Another way to stretch your upgrade pixels is to craft a team that works well together and focus on only leveling that team up. Only using a single team of five characters for most of your battles will allow you to save up your pixels and focus on upgrading characters as needed. Or once you have a surplus of upgrade pixels, of course.
