How to Prevent AngularJS Route Change Flickering by Delaying Until Model Loads?

Delaying AngularJS Route Change Until Model Loaded to Prevent Flicker

AngularJS provides a convenient way to manage routing in web applications. However, there are scenarios where you may want to delay showing a new route until after the corresponding models and data have been loaded from the server. This can be useful to prevent flickering or blank page displays while the data is being retrieved.

The $routeProvider.Resolve Property

The $routeProvider.resolve property allows you to specify dependencies that need to be resolved before a route change can occur. This means that the route change will be delayed until these dependencies have been met.

Defining a Route with Resolve

To define a route that delays the route change until the model has been loaded, simply specify the resolve property on the route configuration. For example:

$routeProvider.when('/projects', {
  templateUrl: 'partials/project-list.html',
  controller: PhoneListCtrl,
  resolve: PhoneListCtrl.resolve
});

Implementing the Resolve Function

The resolve function is responsible for returning a promise. The route change will not proceed until this promise is resolved. Here is an example of a resolve function that retrieves a list of projects using the $resource service:

PhoneListCtrl.resolve = {
  phones: function (Phone, $q) {
    // Create a deferred object to resolve the promise later
    var deferred = $q.defer();

    // Fetch the projects using $resource and resolve the promise when successful
    Phone.query(function (successData) {
      deferred.resolve(successData);
    }, function (errorData) {
      deferred.reject(); // Optionally pass error data here
    });

    // Return the promise
    return deferred.promise;
  },
  // For demonstration purposes, add a delay to the resolve
  delay: function ($q, $defer) {
    var delay = $q.defer();
    $defer(delay.resolve, 1000);
    return delay.promise;
  }
};

Once the resolve function is complete, the corresponding controller can access the resolved data, such as the list of projects.

Prevent Flickering While Loading Data

While the data is being loaded, you can prevent flickering by continuing to display the current page. This can be achieved by using the ng-switch directive to conditionally display the loading state or the loaded data.

Javascript Data Types : Is there any difference between Browser and NodeJs?Javascript Data Types : Is there any difference between Browser and NodeJs?May 14, 2025 am 12:15 AM

JavaScript core data types are consistent in browsers and Node.js, but are handled differently from the extra types. 1) The global object is window in the browser and global in Node.js. 2) Node.js' unique Buffer object, used to process binary data. 3) There are also differences in performance and time processing, and the code needs to be adjusted according to the environment.

Python vs. JavaScript: A Comparative Analysis for DevelopersPython vs. JavaScript: A Comparative Analysis for DevelopersMay 09, 2025 am 12:22 AM

The main difference between Python and JavaScript is the type system and application scenarios. 1. Python uses dynamic types, suitable for scientific computing and data analysis. 2. JavaScript adopts weak types and is widely used in front-end and full-stack development. The two have their own advantages in asynchronous programming and performance optimization, and should be decided according to project requirements when choosing.

Python vs. JavaScript: Choosing the Right Tool for the JobPython vs. JavaScript: Choosing the Right Tool for the JobMay 08, 2025 am 12:10 AM

Whether to choose Python or JavaScript depends on the project type: 1) Choose Python for data science and automation tasks; 2) Choose JavaScript for front-end and full-stack development. Python is favored for its powerful library in data processing and automation, while JavaScript is indispensable for its advantages in web interaction and full-stack development.

Python and JavaScript: Understanding the Strengths of EachPython and JavaScript: Understanding the Strengths of EachMay 06, 2025 am 12:15 AM

Python and JavaScript each have their own advantages, and the choice depends on project needs and personal preferences. 1. Python is easy to learn, with concise syntax, suitable for data science and back-end development, but has a slow execution speed. 2. JavaScript is everywhere in front-end development and has strong asynchronous programming capabilities. Node.js makes it suitable for full-stack development, but the syntax may be complex and error-prone.
