is failing to resize its width to fit within its parent container, even when the contained element has a max-width: 100%. The issue is only observed in Firefox and Firefox for Android.

Cause:

In Gecko browsers (including Firefox), fieldsets have an enforced minimum width equal to the intrinsic width of their content by default. This behavior is not overridable in Gecko's rendering engine.

Solution:

To fix the resizing issue in Firefox, set the fieldset's display property to one of the following values:

• table-cell (recommended)
• table-column
• table-column-group
• table-footer-group
• table-header-group
• table-row
• table-row-group

Additionally, to hide this fix from other browsers, use the @-moz-document CSS extension:

@-moz-document url-prefix() {
    fieldset {
        display: table-cell;
    }
}

Note: This @-moz-document hack is no longer necessary in Firefox 53 and later, as the underlying bug has been fixed.
