Once you join up with Taash in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you'll gain access to her dragon-hunting quests, which task you with hunting down and defeating various draconic beasts. Kataranda The Stormrider is one such creature and requires a little bit of prep work before you can challenge this massive monster in direct combat.
While each dragon foe offers a similarly structured fight, luckily, you're introduced to them in different ways, as is the case with Kataranda. To lure the Dragon out into the open for a fight, you'll first need to gather some of its lost treasure to entice Kataranda into appearing.
First, read the posted note from Isabela in The Hilt – Upper Balcony, and listen to Taash's briefing on Kataranda The Stormrider.
After you're done, fast-travel to the Rivain Coast to begin your quest.
Arrive at the Winding Shoreline where you'll spot the first wreck directly in front of you.
Taash is required for this (and other) dragon-hunting quest, so add her to your party now for convenience.
Near the first wreck, use Taash's Fire Breath on Meltable Objects to recover the first bit of Kataranda's Treasure.
From there, follow your marker through the broken gate and to the adjacent beach. You can fight or run past groups of enemies on the way.
Go through a cave and come out onto Dragon Beach, where you'll find the second wreck directly ahead of you.
After investigating the wreck, your quest will update to recover Kataranda's treasure (again).
This time, four markers will appear on mounds of dirt where you can look for the buried treasure. Keep digging using Griffon Dig until you find the treasure.
You will need to defeat enemies that emerge from the incorrect piles.
After you find the correct pile, you can investigate the third shipwreck on the shore next to you.
As you investigate, a bird will steal the treasure, forcing you to search for the nearby bird nests until you find it.
Go past the scaffolding upstream and up the fallen tree branch which will take you to an upper cliff. When you reach the upper area, the quest will update again; now you must search for the nests.
This area will require you to follow your markers and parkour to higher ledges, so take your time as you progress.
Also, listen for dialogue where Taash mentions that Lightning dragons are weak to poison (Necrotic).
Once you find the treasure randomly placed in one of the nests, your quest will update.
It's time to summon Kataranda at Dragon Beach.
After you use the treasure to lure Kataranda the Stormrider to Dragon Beach, the monster will defend and face you head-on in combat.
Kataranda is weak to Necrotic damage and resists Electric.
Kataranda's lightning breath attacks are particularly dangerous, so be sure to prioritize avoiding damage from them.
The level 35 dragon is fast and hits hard, but you will notice that there are purple glowing weak points that appear on its body throughout the fight.
Exploit these areas, attacking them to inflict massive damage while the beast is vulnerable.
At about 66 percent and 33 percent remaining HP, Kataranda (and all the dragons you fight with Taash) will flee to a perch and unleash several powerful elemental attacks on you and your companions.
Once Kataranda is weakened and retreats to the perch to rain down lighting, it's time to abandon attacking and focus solely on dodging. However, be careful to also avoid electrified water while you dodge direct attacks.
Your only objective is to survive the onslaught until the dragon finishes and returns to the ground.
Once Kataranda returns to the battlefield, you should continue damaging the dragon and exploiting its weak points until it retreats to its perch before phase three.
Continue your careful dance of dodging the lightning attacks and electrified water while attacking during openings and Kataranda will go down in no time.
Take a breath and celebrate, you have just defeated an incredibly powerful foe and lived to tell the tale. Once Kataranda is defeated, you'll earn the following rewards for your effort:
Furthermore, you can also collect the nearby treasure to claim the Unique Broadsword, Audacity.
Audacity consumes an arrow each time it hits an enemy, but increases damage by 50 percent in return.
Enjoy your bounty and prepare to hunt more dragons with Taash.
