One of the most important decisions to make when starting any game is what difficulty to use. With this in mind, let me explain the difficulties and answer the question: Should you play Story Mode or Adventure Mode in The Plucky Squire? I’ll also explain how NG works.
Should you play Story Mode or Adventure Mode in The Plucky Squire?
There are two difficulty modes in The Plucky Squire, and you must choose carefully, as you cannot change this setting mid-playthrough. If you want to experience both difficulties, you must use a separate save file for each playthrough.
Adventure Mode is the equivalent of “normal” difficulty in other games, while Story Mode is notably easier.
Combat in Adventure Mode is more challenging than Story Mode, as are the mini-games. Keep in mind that you can skip the mini-games through the pause menu if you struggle, regardless of difficulty.
Your mileage may vary, but I recommend playing on Adventure Mode. I didn’t die a single time in combat during my Adventure Mode playthrough. I rarely felt like I was in danger, and the game throws health items at you whenever you get hit.
The Plucky Squire is relaxed and accessible in Adventure Mode, and most battles can be won by mashing the attack button.
Does The Plucky Squire have a New Game Plus?
Sadly, there is no NG mode in the Plucky Squire, although there is a Chapter Replay function. You can revisit any chapter in the game, although you must start them from the beginning.
Progress isn’t saved during a Chapter Replay, which is both a good and a bad thing. On one hand, it doesn’t affect your main save progress. Conversely, you must complete whatever chapter you choose in a single sitting.
You can load your completed save file, but it transports you to the end of the game, just before the credits.
No matter what difficulty you choose, many puzzle elements remain the same. Unique collectathons, like Rubboink wrangling, are almost identical outside combat sequences.
