RARE coins can be worth a lot of money, especially those with minting errors.

In past months, we’ve seen a lot of gems sell for thousands more than their face value.

And just recently, a rare 1p coin with a “unique” date flogged for an eye-watering £140,000 at auction.

It just goes to show that you never know what could be lurking in your private possession.

Now onto £2 coins, there are three specific designs which one collector reckons are worth “thousands”.

TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard often delights his followers with updates on special gems to keep an eye on.

He boasts 174,100 followers on the platform where he uploads a video each day.

And in the recent clip, he turned his attention to three £2 coins.

He said: “Whip out those £2 coins, some of them are worth thousands.”

Speaking about the 2014 coin to mark the 100th year anniversary of the First World War, he said: “The error version is missing the words ‘Two Pounds’ from the side.

“The 2014 coin was launched nine years ago to mark 100 year since the start of WWI it features an image of Lord Kitchener, a prominent British war figure who appeared on government propaganda posters.

Only the version with the missing wording is worth £1,000+.”

Meanwhile a piece which resembles a “fried egg” is also hot topic among collectors at the moment.

A design error on the £2 coin makes it look like a runny fried egg as the middle has spilled out onto the outer rim.

Owning one of these could be worth £600, if not more sometimes.

And finally, a third coin from 2014 features an error on the front with the wrong inscription.

According to him, this one could sell for around £30, if not slightly more.

He concluded: “If you have this coin from 2016, these coins have the wrong inscription for King and country. This normally sells for around £30.”

Since it was shared this week, it scooped hundreds of likes and comments, including one who wrote: “Thanks for that skull one bro.”

While another added: “I have the same one.”
