Sony does not have a great habit of updating its Android-based devices in a timely manner. To that end, the first stable releases of Android 15 are fast approaching. Nonetheless, Sony's NW-A306 (curr. $348 on Amazon) and NW-ZX707 music players remain adrift on Android 13, having been released with Android 12.
However, the likes of The Walkman Blog have noticed that Sony is quietly preparing Android 14 updates for the pair. Officially, Sony has not revealed plans to upgrade either of its current music players from Android 13. Instead, the NW-A306 and NW-ZX707 have appeared on Geekbench running unreleased firmware.
Ultimately, Android 14 will not make either music player run any faster, as the Geekbench 6.3.0 benchmark scores below underline. Also, the OS update should not affect wired audio quality when plugging earphones or headphones directly into either the NW-A306 or NW-ZX707. With that being said, there is potential for both devices to benefit from improved external USB DAC support. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when Sony will begin rolling Android 14 to either device at this stage.
