Dongfeng Nissan responded to the closure of Changzhou factory: increasing investment in new energy models

It is reported that the annual production capacity of Dongfeng Nissan's Changzhou plant is approximately 130,000 vehicles. The plant has been taken over by Dongfeng Nissan since around 2017 and has undertaken part of the task of adjusting production capacity of government and enterprises. This factory mainly produces Qashqai models, but its capacity utilization rate has not been ideal in recent years. In less than four years since the factory officially put into production its first car on November 18, 2020, Nissan's newest factory in China has announced its closure.

Dongfeng Nissan emphasized that about 300 relevant employees at the Changzhou factory have been properly resettled. The company has adopted a variety of methods, including local transfers and layoff compensation, to minimize the impact on employees.

According to the editor’s understanding, Japanese media previously reported that Nissan has officially announced the closure of its passenger car production base in Changzhou, Jiangsu. The plant mainly produces Qashqai SUVs, with an annual output of about 130,000 units, accounting for 8% of Nissan's total output in China of 1.6 million units. The decision to close the plant reflects Nissan's strategic adjustment amid changes in the global automotive industry.
