Philips Hue has launched a new smart ceiling light in Europe, Datura. The light is available in two versions, Round and Round small, offering white and colored lighting. The company describes the model as frameless, though it has a slim white plastic frame, working particularly well in bedrooms or living rooms with a lower ceiling.
The Datura shines light directly from its round front, with a diffused backlight projected onto the ceiling. These two light sources can be controlled independently, with various effects available through the Philips Hue app. The Round variant is 574 mm (~22.6 inches) across, while the Round small measures 384 mm (~15.1 inches). The larger device generates up to 5,390 lumens brightness, while the smaller model peaks at 3,840 lumens. The 48W bulb is expected to last up to 25,000 hours, and the product has a class G energy efficiency rating.
The Philips Hue Datura Ceiling Light Round and Round small are now available in the UK for £349.99 and £259.99, respectively. The products are currently listed as out of stock in EU countries like the Netherlands, France, and Germany, with retail prices of €399.99 and €299.99. The ceiling lights are expected to be launched in North America this September. The company already offers smart ceiling lights in these regions, such as the Enrave S ceiling light.
