Gates said: "I have invested more than $1 billion, and I will invest billions more."

TerraPower's nuclear power plant project has received support from the U.S. Department of Energy , initially expected to be operational in 2028. The reactor design uses liquid sodium instead of water as a coolant and contains molten salt fuel that stores heat to increase power output. Gates said TerraPower plans to purchase nuclear reactor fuel from the United States and its allies.
