Sun对来源的重视体现到了业务的方方面面。在几次的媒体沟通会上，都能听到Sun的各层管理人员对开源的解释和重视。中秋节，笔者见到了Sun大中华区总裁连智浩先生，面对并不是那么温和的问题，连智浩说，开源是Sun的坚持。与IBM成品概念不同，Sun其实更为关注的是“系统”的建设，而且主要针对的对象是关注技术的开发人员。
所以在得到MySQL之后，Sun提供了对整条MySQL产品线的7X24的一年期企业级数据库的订购和服务，以确保全球的IT机构能够在网络经济中拥有领先的开放数据库的优势。包括Solaris、Linux和Windows在内的多种平台的广泛支持。Sun新的MySQL数据库是大量创建各类Web 2.0应用的流行软件中的一个关键部分。
不难看出，MySQL对Sun来说是个补充。据悉，在发布并购消息之后，MySQL数据库的下载量也直线上升，一切都朝着好的方向发展。
8个月之后，一个不大不小的坏消息传来。
MySQL社区关系主管卡伊·阿莫(Kaj Arno)昨日宣布，MySQL联合创始人大卫·艾克马克(David Axmark)已经向Sun递交了辞呈。在过去的几年中,他在MySQL公司扮演着重要角色,其中包括工程主管、内部IT主管和社区关系主管等。他最重要的成就是——正是在艾克马克的主张下,才使得MySQL成为一款开源软件。而且，很多MySQL的高级工程师都是由艾克马克招募进来，因此他在公司里也拥有着很高的威信。
这对于Sun来说，是个不小的打击，不过艾克马克称，自己并不是因为收购才考虑离职，他只是痛恨遵循各种规章制度。离职之后，他将会为Sun提供咨询服务，据悉，离职的正式日期是11月10日。
