This guide will walk you through the encounter. "Confront the King" will severely test your Oblivion Remastered skills, so thorough preparation is crucial before confronting the vile King of Worms in his lair. We'll also share strategies for a relatively smooth victory.

Starting "Confront the King"

After completing "Ambush," return to Traven and entrust him with the Colossal Black Soul Gem. A subsequent conversation unfolds, culminating in a tragic event. You'll then need to retrieve the Filled Black Soul Gem from Traven's remains.

Your ascension to Arch-Mage is complete – a bittersweet triumph. Your next destination is Echo Cave, located west of Bruma in the Jerall Mountains.

At the entrance, Bolor Savel will challenge you to a fight. Defeat him (using your preferred necromancer-fighting tactics) and proceed through the three-section dungeon.

Each section contains necromancers and undead. Alchemists will find ample Cairn Bolete plants, and the chests in the Necromancer's Chamber are typically rewarding.

The King of Worms

Finally, you'll confront Mannimarco. While dialogue options exist, combat is unavoidable. Consider offering a doomed alliance for a dramatic touch.

Your immunity to Mannimarco's thrall spell levels the playing field somewhat, but remember he's seven levels above you, regardless of your current level.

Mannimarco is vulnerable to Fire, Frost, and Shock damage, reflecting his Altmer heritage. His potent spellcasting abilities present a significant challenge.

Arch-Mage Triumphant

Claim the Staff of Worms from Mannimarco's corpse and return to the Arcane University. You are now officially the Arch-Mage of Cyrodiil!

This prestigious title grants significant advantages: access to the University's top floor, the ability to duplicate most Alchemy ingredients, the option to enlist Mage Apprentices as assistants, and more.
