Garmin promises to fix activity crashes and incident detection issues with new update for mid-range smartwatch

Garmin has had a rather busy month when it comes to releasing new software updates. On the one hand, it continues to regularly bring new features and bug fixes to its existing smartwatches like the Fenix 7. On the other hand, it has now started shipping firmware upgrades to the Enduro 3, Fenix E and Fenix 8, which all debuted earlier this month.

For reference, the latest update for the trio is said to resolve high battery drain, full details of which we have covered separately. By contrast, a new update for the Forerunner 965 contains bug fixes that may get overlooked at first. Incidentally, Software Version 20.29 is the second stable update that Garmin has delivered for the Forerunner 965 this month after Software Version 20.26 landed about two weeks ago.

In short, Software Version 20.26 was billed as bringing more than a dozen improvements to the Forerunner 965 (curr. $495 on Amazon). In comparison, Garmin has released Software Version 20.29 to combat two outstanding bugs. Namely, the new software should fix an issue that could cause a crash when starting an activity. Additionally, Garmin claims that Software Version 20.29 resolves incident detection remaining active after an activity ends. If your Forerunner 965 is still on an earlier firmware update, you can trigger the download of Software Version 20.29 by heading to Menu, System, Software Update and then tapping 'Check For Updates'.
