To begin, you must have substantially progressed through the Mages Guild questline. This means completing almost every Mages Guild quest, obtaining recommendations from all branches, and gaining access to the Arcane University. The completion of "The Necromancer's Amulet" is also a prerequisite.

Once ready, speak with Arch-Mage Hannibal Traven at the Arcane University in the Imperial City. He'll direct you to Silorn, an Ayleid ruin southeast of Skingrad.

Confronting Falcar at Silorn:

Upon reaching Silorn, you'll encounter three Battlemages: Iver, Merete, and Thalfin. Strategically assign them for optimal combat: Iver and Thalfin for close-quarters combat, and Merete for ranged attacks.

Initiate the fight by speaking with Thalfin. Falcar and three necromancers will appear. You have two options:

Option 1: The Dungeon Dive: Falcar will retreat into the ruins. You'll then need to navigate Silorn's three zones (culminating in Silorn Buroseli) to confront him. This is recommended if you lack powerful spells or stealth skills.

Option 2: The Swift Victory: If you possess strong paralysis spells or invisibility, you can incapacitate Falcar before he escapes. Alternatively, use stealth to approach him and pickpocket the Colossal Black Soul Gem. This significantly shortens the quest.

Completing the Quest:

Once you possess the Colossal Black Soul Gem, return to the Arcane University and give it to Hannibal Traven. This will complete the "Ambush" quest, bringing you closer to the Mages Guild's ultimate reward.
