A new console from Nintendo is long arguably overdue. While the Switch OLED (curr. $329.95 on Amazon) continues to sell well, it is ultimately based on hardware that Nintendo began shipping in early 2017. To that end, rumours about a successor's potential hardware capabilities have been rumoured for years.

Additionally, the presumed design of Nintendo's next hybrid console has now surfaced online courtesy of an extensive leak that landed earlier this week. Although that leak revealed a lot in itself, YouTuber XNZ took it upon themselves to 3D print a mock-up to better compare it with current alternatives. On the face of it, the so-called Switch 2 resembles a slightly larger Switch OLED thanks to the move from a 7-inch to an 8-inch display.

Incidentally, this would also mean that the Switch 2 would offer more screen real estate than the Steam Deck OLED. However, the former benefits from a slimmer design that ensures it has a smaller overall footprint than Valve's current gaming handheld. On top of that, the video highlights that the Switch 2 has a second USB Type-C port, which XNZ speculates could be used for accessories like a USB camera.

Moreover, Nintendo appears to have redesigned the Joy-Con rails between generations. Seemingly, the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers will attach magnetically rather than via a series of clasps. Furthermore, the right Joy-Con features an additional button. Unfortunately, the exact uses of this button remain unknown for now, as do a precise release date and launch pricing.
