Google Tensor G4 tipped to offer tepid upgrades over Tensor G3

Multiple Geekbench listings have told us the Google's upcoming Tensor G4 will come with an 8-core CPU unlike its 9-core predecessor. Performance-wise, it is about 10% faster than the Tensor G3 in single-core performance and about 4% in multi-core. Prolific leaker Kamila Wojciechowska (via Android Authority) has now revealed some more Tensor G4 specs.

Much like modern-day Qualcomm and MediaTek flagships, the Google Tensor G4 will use an Arm Cortex-X4 as its 'prime' core clocked at 3.10 GHz. It will be supplemented by three Cortex-A720 (2.6 GHz) and four Cortex-A520 (1.95 GHz) cores. Additionally, it will use the same Arm Mali-G715 GPU found on the Tensor G3 with a minor clock bump (940 MHz vs 890 MHz). This sits in line an earlier leak that said the Tensor G4 would arrive with new CPU cores but keep the same GPU.

Other Tensor G4 elements, such as its ISP, Titan M2 chip, and DSP will remain identical across generations. Thankfully, it gets a new Exynos Modem 5400 which is noticeably faster than the previous Exynos Modem 5300. Given its overall situation, one can reasonably assume it will be manufactured on Samsung Foundry's 4LPP or 4LPP+ node. The latter helped Samsung's Exynos 2400 keep up with the TSMC N4P-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, at least in thermals, and should translate to the Tensor G4 running cooler.

Even though the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold are tipped to arrive with significant camera upgrades and new Google AI features, the one-year wait for the Pixel 10 should be worth it. Not only is its Tensor G5 SoC manufactured on TSMC's 3 nm node, but it is also Google's first fully in-house SoC.
