First, I used OpenOffice to convert excel, word, ppt, etc. into pdf documents on the server side, and then used pdf.js to display them on the web. Safari, Chrome, and Firefox can all display PDF directly, but the display area is slightly different. Chrome suspends a control bar for simple zooming and other operations, and Firefox will have a toolbar with many functions such as taking notes. I haven't tried viewing it in webview, it should be fine.
