Branch versions and derivative versions of mysql

MariaDB is like a shadow version of MySQL. MariaDB is a branch version of MySQL, not a derivative version (folk). The functions provided are fully compatible with MySQL. This is the introduction to Mysql in Baidu Encyclopedia. I don’t understand what branch version and derivative version mean. What is the difference?

This statement should be wrong. MariaDB is a derivative version of mysql.

The derivative version of MySQL is modified and optimized based on the MySQL open source version, thereby producing MySQL versions with different characteristics. Some famous MySQL derivatives such as: MariaDB, Percona Server, MepSQL, Drizzle, OurDelta, etc.
