What is the best and most practical window layout when stacking?
Is it double columns, double rows, multiple rows and multiple columns, grid, or vertical T?
Or something else?

It seems unkind to only throw one picture here...
When I write code, whether it is single screen or dual screen, the code is only on one screen. If you only open one file, full screen is fine. When opening two or more files, get used to separating them into top and bottom/top, middle and bottom (as in my picture). The directory tree is not necessary, especially for Vim, but you still need to open it when you are not familiar with the workspace directory.
