News on May 7, according to the latest research from TechInsights, global smartphone shipments in Q1 2024 will increase by 9.7% year-on-year, reaching 295 million units.
TechInsights stated that eight of the top ten mobile phone brands in the world are Chinese brands.
Among them, Xiaomi ranks third in the world and first in China. This quarter, Xiaomi's global smartphone shipments were 40.8 million units, a year-on-year increase of 34%, and its market share was 14%, up from 11% a year ago.
It is worth noting that Xiaomi has maintained its upward momentum for three consecutive quarters. Strong growth in India, Southeast Asia, Central and Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe and Africa and the Middle East largely offset mixed results in Western Europe.
In India, Xiaomi consolidated its lead with a 19% market share, up from 17% a year ago.
Transsion (including the three brands Tecno, Infinix and itel) ranked fourth for two consecutive quarters this quarter. The global smartphone shipments of these three brands in Q1 2024 totaled 28.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 88%, and their market share was close to 10%, up from 6% a year ago.
OPPO (OnePlus) ranked fifth, with global smartphone shipments in Q1 2024 reaching 24.8 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 10%. It captured 8% of the market, down from 10% in the same period last year.
vivo’s global shipments in Q1 2024 were 21.1 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 1%, ranking sixth with a market share of 7%.
Honor’s shipments in Q1 2024 were 17 million units, a year-on-year increase of 34%, consolidating its seventh place with a market share of 6%.
Lenovo-Motorola remained in eighth place with a market share of 4% in Q1 2024, a year-on-year increase of 22%.
Huawei ranked ninth, with a year-on-year growth of 111%. realme remains in the top ten, with a market share of nearly 4% in the quarter and achieving an annual growth rate of 17%.
TechInsights said that except for OPPO (OnePlus) and vivo, all others achieved annual growth in Q1 of 2024. The combined annual growth rate of all these Chinese brands is 26%, significantly outpacing the overall market which is growing at only 10%.
