Counterpoint: China’s smartphone market grows year-on-year for second consecutive quarter

According to Counterpoint’s weekly mobile phone sales report data, China’s smartphone sales increased by 1.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, achieving positive year-on-year growth for the second consecutive quarter.

Huawei stood out among all mobile phone brands in the first quarter, with a year-on-year growth of 69.7%. Huawei's growth is largely due to brisk sales of its 5G-enabled Mate 60 series, coupled with its own brand recognition as a household name, which has boosted its share of the high-end market above $600.

Although Huawei's strong return has impacted other manufacturers in the market, Honor still achieved 11.5% year-on-year growth in the first quarter thanks to several popular models and its expansion in offline channels.

In the first quarter of 2024, China’s smartphone sales increased by 1.5% year-on-year and 4.6% month-on-month, marking the second consecutive quarter of positive year-on-year growth.

Huawei stood out among all mobile phone brands this quarter, with a year-on-year growth of 69.7%; Honor also saw double-digit growth.

vivo ranks first, followed by Honor and Apple.

As Huawei’s comeback changed the pattern of the high-end market, Apple’s first-quarter sales fell 19.1% year-on-year.

The market is expected to experience low single-digit year-over-year growth in 2024.
