Apple has released the second round of developer beta versions of iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5, tvOS 17.5, watchOS 10.5 and macOS Sonoma 14.5, with iOS 17.5 introducing the Apple Web Distribution system. Developers can obtain new versions through the Apple Developer Center, and public users can register to participate in public testing through the Apple Beta Software Program website.
The build numbers of the new versions are: 21F5058e (replacing 21F5048f) for iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5, 21L5553e (replacing 21L5543d) for tvOS 17.5 and HomePod Software 17.5, and 21L5553e (replacing 21L5543d) for tvOS 17.5 and HomePod Software 17.5. 10.5 is 21T5555d (replaces 21T5545f), macOS Sonoma 14.5 is 23F5059e (replaces 23F5049).
Apple's Web Distribution system allows developers in the EU to distribute iOS applications directly through their own websites instead of the App Store, and provides API support to handle online distribution, system function integration, backup and recovery and other functions. Such applications must meet notarization requirements and the installation domain name must be registered with App Store Connect.
There are fewer user-visible changes in the beta version, including adjustments to the podcast widget and changes to charging information in settings. Apple Insider and Apple recommend that users do not install the beta system on important devices to avoid problems such as data loss. Testers should conduct testing on backup or non-essential devices and ensure that important data is backed up.
