据国外媒体报道，美国互联网市场调研机构NetCraft日前发布了2006年4月份的网站统计数据。数据显示，到今年4月份，全球网站数量已经超过了8000万。
据统计，NetCraft统计的网站数量为80，655，992个，比三月份增加了310万个。比半年前2005年10月份统计的74，409，971个增加了近600万个。互联网发展在全球继续呈现快速增长趋势，2003年4月份，全球网站数量还停留在4000万个。在过去三年中，全球网站数量已经翻了一倍。
统计还显示，WEB服务器市场中，基于Linux的Apache依然是网站主的第一选择。目前，Linux及Apache在网站操作系统及WEB服务器软件市场的份额为62.7%，由于价格高昂和安全性不足，微软的Windows操作系统以及IIS WEB服务器软件的市场占有率仅为25.2%。
从2005年10月份至今，基于Linux的Apache平台已从49，598，424个增至50，571，307个，增加近百万。
对于开源业界来说，由于Linux、Apache均免费，此外还有免费数据MySQL、服务器脚本语言PHP共同构建了广受追捧的“LAMP”套件，性价比极高，因此非常受获得网站开发人员的欢迎。而Windows软件非免费，数据库SQL Server和Access均收费，尽管其IIS服务器软件、脚本语言ASP(ASP.NET)目前在施行免费赠送，但对广大网站主来说，依然是一笔不小的开支。
拿互联网社区来说，国外最知名的三大BBS软件提供商IPB、VBB、PHPBB等均基于Linux的LAMP平台。使用php技术。包括Yahoo!等全球最知名的网站均是php平台的支持者。
在国内，市场占有率最高的社区BBS软件Discuz!也是LAMP平台的长期支持者，其中，大型社区平台因安全性考虑，采用Windows软件平台的寥寥无几。由于微软逐步放弃落后的ASP平台的升级而转往新平台.net，一大批基于asp平台的BBS软件均出现了前景危机，比如，动网论坛Dvbbs则在今年3月底对外宣布将重新开发基于php平台的BBS软件，从而逐渐放弃日渐衰弱的asp平台。
随着社区BBS及Web2.0应用的普及，以及国内php技术支持者的不断增加，业内人士预计，在服务器平台及软件方面，Linux和Apache市场占有率将在未来两年内取得更高的市场分额。（n106）
