　　天极网11月19日消息(老沈编译) IBM公司一名主管称，公司可能在明年发布免费版的DB2数据库软件。

　　IBM新加坡公司负责信息管理的品牌经理Teo对媒体说:为实现让开发商关注IBM数据库产品的公司战略，公司“有潜在可能提供”DB2软件的免费初学者版。

　　IBM公司目前的确没有DB2软件的免费独立版，而竞争产品微软的SQL Server 2005就有免费版本，甲骨文也在最近发布了免费的XE数据库软件。

　　对IBM即将发放免费数据库软件一事，Gartner公司副总裁Feinberg指出，IBM发布免费版DB2数据库软件只是一个时间问题。

　　他指出，与竞争对手微软和甲骨文一样，IBM公司期望大大增加自己在数据库市场上的份额，就像开放源代码MySQL数据库软件所获得的支持一样，特别那些中小企业的程序员。

　　他还说，与用于开发工作的版权数据库产品相比，MySQL的“免费”诱惑对中小企业的软件开发者有吸引力，一个单一CPU许可证的小型数据库软件需支付2000多美元，这笔钱仍然太多了。

　　然而，IBM公司官员指出，购买数据库软件的成本不应当掩盖产品的维护成本，因为有可能产生维护数据库的人工成本，或者是制造商的技术支持成本。
