OPPO Chief Intellectual Property Officer Feng Ying said that they have reached a global patent cross-license with Nokia Agreement, which includes essential patents for 5G standards. This agreement demonstrates the recognition and respect of each other's intellectual property rights and lays the foundation for future cooperation. OPPO has always respected intellectual property rights, advocated reasonable charging, and is committed to establishing a long-term and healthy intellectual property ecosystem. They hope to resolve intellectual property disputes between licensors and licensees through friendly negotiation and mutual respect for the value of patents.

Jenni Lukander, President of Nokia Technologies, said they are pleased to have reached a cross-licensing agreement with OPPO. This agreement reflects the parties' mutual respect for each other's intellectual property rights, as well as Nokia's investment in advanced research and development and contribution to open standards. As one of the leading companies in the global smartphone market, OPPO and Nokia look forward to bringing more innovative results to its users around the world through cooperation. This new licensing agreement, along with other major smartphone licensing deals Nokia has struck over the past few years, will provide long-term financial stability to their licensing business.

This means that after two years and seven months, the global patent dispute between OPPO and Nokia has come to an end.

According to previous reports, the Chongqing No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court made a judgment in early December 2023 on the case of OPPO v. Nokia’s standard essential patent royalty dispute. According to the judgment, Nokia’s global fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) rates for 2G-5G standard essential patents were confirmed. For 5G multi-mode mobile phones, the single unit license fee in the first region of the world is US$1.151/unit, and the single unit license fee in the second area (mainland China) and third area is US$0.707/unit. For 4G multi-mode mobile phones, the single-unit license fee in the first zone is US$0.777/unit, and the single-unit license fee in the second and third zones is US$0.477/unit.

According to data released by OPPO, as of December 31, 2023, OPPO has laid out 5G communication standard patents in more than 40 countries and regions around the world. In addition, they have completed a total of 5,900 global patent applications, and have 3,300 5G standard patents in the ETSI statement. The cumulative number of standard manuscripts submitted to 3GPP exceeds 11,000. This shows that OPPO’s patent layout in the 5G field is very extensive, reflecting their technical strength and innovation capabilities on a global scale.
