News from this site on January 15, when working off the grid in remote areas, it is difficult to provide lasting energy for equipment, whether it is liquid fuel or electricity. Recently, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), Rolls-Royce and Air Burners launched a new BioCharger.

BioCharger is a wood-burning car charger that uses "air curtain technology" to burn wood in a closed-loop system and waste, the heat generated is converted into electrical energy and stored in an attached battery storage module (BSM). This energy can then be used to charge electric vehicles, construction equipment and portable power tools throughout the job site.

While electric motors are becoming increasingly popular in the fight against climate change, when it comes to forest management, we need more practical solutions for charging devices, especially when away from traditional power supplies. Therefore, Brian O'Connor, President of Air Burners, explains: "The BioCharger air burner provides this solution in an economical and environmentally friendly way." Recharge your devices to save costs and reduce the burden on the environment. Such solutions are of great significance to the forest management industry, improving work efficiency and protecting the ecological environment.

Air Burners points out that in the United States alone, approximately 70 million tons of wood waste are collected each year, but more than 50% of this waste is burned or decomposed in the open, releasing particulate matter and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere middle. In contrast, the company claims its "closed-loop system" significantly reduces harmful particulate matter and greenhouse gas emissions.

BioCharger can also convert "waste heat" into useful electricity. Rolls-Royce (note: a power production company, not the Rolls-Royce brand owned by BMW) helped Air Burners develop a 450 kilowatt-hour electric vehicle charging station inside the BioCharger.

Kevin McKinney, director of sales for Rolls-Royce Solutions America, said the BioCharger is a unique application of the mtu EnergyPack battery energy storage system and demonstrates the versatility of energy storage. With the ability to reduce emissions and generate energy by responsibly processing plant waste, BioCharger is perfectly aligned with our goal to support customers in their transition to clean power generation through innovative solutions. This application provides our customers with a sustainable energy solution and promotes the use of renewable energy sources. We will continue to advance the development of these innovative technologies to help achieve a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

The BioCharger is currently being used in the pilot testing phase of a prototype 23-tonne Volvo EC230 electric crawler excavator, the vehicle will enter commercial service later this year.
