IT House reported on December 24 that the highly anticipated Meta Avatars SDK 24 version finally added leg functions, allowing residents of the Metaverse to bid farewell to the floating state and officially enter the down-to-earth virtual world
In the past, Meta's virtual reality avatars have been ridiculed on social media and in the tech community for appearing to be comical with only their upper bodies. While Meta added legs to the Quest main menu and Horizon Worlds platform appearances in August and September respectively, the public Meta Avatars SDK for third-party apps like GOLF and Eleven Table Tennis has been without legs until now
After nearly 6 months, Meta Avatars SDK finally released version 24. In addition to the much-anticipated leg function, this version also improves the quality of avatar graphics and is available on the Unity Asset Store for the first time to make it easier for developers to use
IT House noted that the graphics upgrade includes "more realistic eye flashes" and "more detailed hair and clothing textures." Meta claims that these improvements are achieved through new optimization technologies such as Compute Skinner and will not affect performance
