This week Microsoft released three Insider versions, respectively for the Canary channel, Dev channel and Beta channel. Typically, these Insider builds reveal new features that haven't been publicly announced yet. The new version mentioned above shows that Windows 11 will limit the number of tabs that can be displayed when the user presses Alt Tab.
This was discovered by Twitter user Xeno. He discovered that in the latest Insider version, Microsoft has adjusted the Alt Tab option in the settings and now only supports up to 20 recent tabs, as shown in the figure below:
In previous versions, such as version 25314, Microsoft allowed switching of "all tabs" (picture below).
Notice that the other options remain the same, namely "5 recent tabs", "3 recent tabs" and "Don't show tabs". Xeno notes that all Insider builds have received the feature, which means the option may be rolling out in the Moment 3 update.
Microsoft may have added this feature to reduce the impact of tabs on system memory (especially if sleeping tabs are disabled), which sometimes also affects low-end processors.
