China News Service, Hainan News, December 15 (He Hezhi) According to the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College, the team of Director of the Joint Surgery Department of the hospital, Jia Bingshen, recently successfully completed artificial knee replacement (TKA) surgery assisted by the domestic Tianzhihang robot. This is the first time in Hainan Province that the domestic Tianzhihang robot has been used to assist in the artificial knee replacement of Kracow type II valgus knee.
Ms. Zhang, 68, has been suffering from pain in both knee joints for more than 10 years. In order to relieve the pain, she took painkillers for a long time, but she suffered adverse reactions. After she went to the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College for treatment, after scientific diagnosis and evaluation by Director Jia Bingshen's team, Ms. Zhang was determined to have severe osteoarthritis in both knees and required knee replacement surgery.
Jia Bingshen said that Grandma Zhang’s knees were severely valgus. In order to achieve better surgical results, it decided to perform robot-assisted artificial total knee replacement surgery for the patient.
Before the operation, the doctor simulated and planned the three-dimensional CT reconstruction image of the patient's knee joint, and performed osteotomy of the distal femur and proximal tibia according to the preoperative plan. During the operation, the medical team performed precise operations and successfully completed the complex valgus knee replacement surgery assisted by a robot. After the operation, Ms. Zhang's knee joint pain was relieved and she was discharged from the hospital a week later.
Knee replacement surgery is an effective method to treat severe osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic osteoarthritis and other diseases of the elderly knee joint. However, this kind of surgery requires extremely high precision, and slight position and axis deviations will affect the stability of the prosthesis and the patient's recovery after surgery. This problem was successfully solved through precise planning and execution of robot-assisted knee replacement surgery. Jia Bingshen said that surgical robots can also avoid accidental injuries during surgery, reduce surgical risks, and accelerate the patient’s recovery process
