Sony’s new patent approved: foot controller for VR
According to a list published by the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), Sony has obtained a new technology patent that can operate VR games with feet.
The patent description of the device shows that it includes a ball large enough and a supporting device. People can manipulate the sphere with their feet, and a support device supports the sphere from below, limiting its translation. Users can rotate the sphere in any direction by manipulating it for different game interactions
Sony mentioned a variety of foot controller designs in its patent, including single sphere, double sphere and bowl-shaped forms
In the patent document, Sony also stated that one of the main problems with current VR and AR control methods is that the movement of handheld controllers is restricted and does not support natural movement. In open world games, the environment in the game is vast, and this problem will lead to a reduction in game immersion.
