According to people familiar with the matter, there is recent news that NIO’s battery swap business may reach a new partnership with JAC Motors. Previously, NIO has cooperated with Changan Automobile and Geely Holding respectively on the battery swap business. As of now, NIO and JAC have not officially responded to this rumor. It is reported that Geely Holding Group recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with NIO. The two parties will carry out comprehensive cooperation in multiple fields, including battery replacement standards, technology, service network construction, model research and development, battery asset management, etc.
According to the editor’s understanding, Geely has become Weilai’s second battery swap partner after Changan Automobile. On November 21, NIO announced its first battery swap cooperation with Changan Automobile.
As Changan and Geely have successively joined NIO’s battery swap system, it is generally expected in the industry that more car companies will follow suit in the future. According to NIO’s official data, as of November 20, NIO has built 2,110 power swap stations, including 650 highway power swap stations and 3,407 charging stations. This makes NIO one of the car companies with the most self-built charging stations in China.
However, as NIO opens up its battery swapping technology to the outside world, some NIO car owners have expressed concerns that opening it to other brands may affect the battery swapping experience of NIO brand users and may lead to more "queuing up" "Battery replacement" situation. In this regard, NIO Chairman Li Bin explained to car owners that what is shared with the outside world is a next-generation super-charging quick-swap battery pack, ensuring that NIO brand users will have an even better battery-swapping experience.
