China News Service, Urumqi, October 24 (Lei Chenhao Sun Xuetong) "The drone has sufficient power, the remote control signal is normal, and there are no obstacles around it, so inspection work can be carried out." Recently, in the 220 kV Miquan substation, drones began to take off and hovered at high altitude to conduct a "physical examination" of the substation. This is the first time that State Grid Urumqi Power Supply Company has carried out drone infrared inspection of transformer equipment, and the company's intelligent level of operation and inspection has entered a new stage.

It is understood that the 220 kV Miquan substation was completed and put into operation in 1982. It is a large hub substation responsible for the power supply task in Midong District, Urumqi City. The traditional substation inspection method mainly uses manual inspection, which has problems such as high labor intensity, low work efficiency, and long inspection time. It has gradually been unable to meet the needs of equipment to ensure power supply.
State Grid Urumqi Power Supply Company used drones for the first time in infrared inspection of substations to assist in the digital transformation of substations.
The drone can not only fly quickly and stably according to the planned route, but also hover over the designated equipment, using high-definition cameras and infrared temperature measurement to measure the composite insulators, tension clamps, drain plates, and splice fittings in the substation. Take multi-angle shots of key connection parts, and send back visible and infrared imaging photos at the same time, so that you can get a clear view of the details of defects and hidden dangers in high parts or tops of equipment and facilities. At the same time, through the intelligent image recognition function, it can automatically identify and classify hidden faults, facilitate defect processing, and greatly improve the efficiency and quality of inspections.
"In the past, we carried out artificial infrared temperature measurement at Miquan Substation, and it took about 2 and a half hours to complete the inspection. Now after using the drone to inspect, there are about 200 flight waypoints, and the inspection time is only 40 minutes. Compared with Manual inspection and autonomous drone inspection are more precise, more efficient and safer," said Hao Yang, head of the Chengbei Substation Transportation Inspection Center.
Before the inspection begins, the "flying hand" follows the substation drone inspection instructions, refers to the drone inspection standard points, combines special inspections of hidden danger areas, optimizes routes, and ensures that all inspection areas are covered. During the inspection, the drone takes multi-angle, all-round, and blind-angle shots of the substation equipment. The infrared temperature measurement function equipped on the drone is used for inspection work such as identification of equipment faults and hidden dangers, discharge detection, etc., and conducts meticulous inspections of the substation. "Physical examination". During a single inspection, a total of more than 100 visible light photos and more than 300 infrared photos were taken.
In the next step, State Grid Urumqi Power Supply Company will continue to explore the application of drone infrared detection technology, analyze the results, summarize experience, continue to promote the intelligentization, informatization and leanness of drone inspections, and promote the digital transformation of the power grid. Further improve the efficiency and quality of equipment transportation and inspection. (over)
