Intel was fined 376.4 million euros (approximately 2.925 billion yuan) by the European Union for violating antitrust laws. The company's monopolistic practices are said to date back to the early 21st century. The European Commission said that between 2002 and 2006, Intel paid HP, Acer and Lenovo to stop or delay the launch of products containing Products from chips produced by Intel's competitors.
To put it simply, this fine was originally part of the 1.06 billion euro penalty, but the EU General Court annulled the aforementioned penalty decision in 2022 because the court only partially agreed with the penalty decision. The EU said the new, smaller fine resulted from narrowing the scope of previously identified anti-competitive conduct.
The European Commission said in a statement, "The General Court confirmed that Intel's naked restrictions amounted to an abuse of its dominant market position under EU competition rules."
Intel said it was considering various choice. "We are evaluating this decision and the amount of the fine to determine possible grounds for appeal and prospects for success in filing an appeal before the European Court of Justice."
Currently, Intel is waiting for the European Commission to approve nearly 10 billion euros in subsidies for building factories in Germany . Additionally, the European Commission last year appealed against another General Court ruling that Intel offered conditional refunds at the European Court of Justice.
