Apple has launched its latest high-end smartphones, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The devices are powered by the new A17 Pro chip, touted as the industry's first 3nm chip, promising enhanced performance and features.
#The A17 Pro chip has been improved in every key aspect. First off, the CPU has been updated to a new 6-core design, consisting of two high-performance cores that are claimed to be 10% faster than its predecessor. In addition, four high-efficiency cores are integrated to increase energy efficiency.
#Apple also launched a new 6-core GPU for the A17 Pro. The company claims this is the largest GPU redesign in Apple’s history. Officials claim that this GPU is 20% faster than previous iterations, introducing features such as mesh shading or hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Notably, hardware-based ray tracing is claimed to be four times faster than software ray tracing.
Apple positioned GPUs as a major enhancement for mobile gaming, showcasing games such as Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding and the upcoming Assassin's Creed Phantoms. All of these games will be available to the max on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro.
The A17 Pro chip integrates a dedicated AV1 decoder, which is expected to provide a more efficient and higher-quality video streaming experience. Additionally, Apple has integrated a new USB controller, enabling USB 3 speeds on iPhone for the first time (only available on iPhone 15 Pro and later). This enables faster data transfer and supports video output up to 4K, 60 fps HDR.
Pricing for these new models is as follows: iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 with 128GB of storage, while iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199 with 256GB of storage. Both models will be available for pre-order shortly after launch and are scheduled to be available on September 22.
