Microsoft today announced the release of Windows 11 Preview Build 23545 to Developer Channel Insiders. Microsoft has also released an ISO for Windows 11 Preview Build 23545. This is a minor update that brings some improvements to the native file sharing experience on Windows 11.

First, Microsoft is rolling out the ability to quickly give devices more friendly names to identify shares with nearby ones. You can set a preferred name for your Windows 11 PC under Settings under >System>Nearby Sharing.

Secondly, Microsoft has introduced the ability to view Microsoft Teams (work or school) contacts and send files to them directly in the built-in Windows sharing window. This experience is only available if you sign in with an Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) account.

In this new Windows 11 Insider build, Microsoft is also testing some different experiences when you click on the search highlight in the search box.

In addition to the above, this release also includes multiple File Explorer fixes, the details of which you can find below.

  • Fixed an issue that could cause Explorer.exe to crash when closing File Explorer.
  • Fixed a bug where File Explorer's address bar, command bar, and context menu could get stuck in the wrong colors and become difficult to read when switching between dark and light modes (or contrast themes) to the problem.
  • Fixed an issue where if File Explorer was launched in a dark theme, a bright white flash could be seen while loading content.
  • Fixed an issue where opening two File Explorer windows quickly could cause Explorer to crash.exe.
  • More fixes have been made to help improve File Explorer startup performance, including fixing leaks that impacted performance over time.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause Explorer.exe to crash when leaving the home page.
  • Fixed an issue where trying to open the gallery after adding a new image could cause a crash.
  • Fixed an issue where the progress wheel in tabs was stuck, showing File Explorer loading a folder when the loading had actually completed.
  • Fixed an issue where File Explorer sort changes would not persist in folders after you navigate away and back.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause incorrect icons in File Explorer tabs.
  • Fixed an issue that caused icons on the desktop to become white generic icons until you refreshed the desktop.
