Apple has just released a new generation of iPhones, including iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These two new models use the new A17 Pro chip, which is the first chip built using 3nm process technology. Apple has previously confirmed that the A17 Pro’s computing speed is up to 20% faster than the previous generation A16 Bionic.
The first Geekbench results for the iPhone 15 Pro have also appeared. Apple pointed out at the press conference that the A17 Pro's GPU is 20% faster than last year's A16 Bionic, while the CPU is only 10% faster. And judging from Geekbench data, these comparisons are consistent with Apple's claims.
The new A17 Pro scored 2914 points in the single-core test and 7199 points in the multi-core test. The A16 Bionic's multi-core score is about 13% higher.
If you compare the A17 Pro with the A15 Bionic in iPhone 13, the difference is even more obvious, with the A17 being up to 40% faster than the A15. The new A17 Pro is also closer to matching the multi-core performance of the M1 chip Apple uses in its Macs and iPads.
Geekbench results also confirm that the new phone comes with 8GB of RAM, compared to 6GB for last year’s model. It is also pointed out that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus still use 6GB of RAAM.
While the A17 Pro is not significantly faster than the A16 Bionic, the new chip brings a number of other improvements. For example, the 3nm architecture makes the chip more efficient, reduces power consumption, and extends the battery life of the iPhone. The A17 Pro also supports ray tracing for better 3D graphics effects, as well as AV1 encoding hardware decoding. It's worth noting that only the A17 Pro chip comes with a USB 3 controller, which allows for faster data transfer speeds when using a compatible USB-C cable. There aren’t many details yet on the performance of the new GPUs, but more information is expected to be revealed soon.
