We can easily remove spaces between inline block elements. Before continuing, let's first create an HTML document and add an inline block element with spaces.
We will style the inline block element using the display attribute with a value of inline-block -
nav a { display: inline-block; background: blue; color: white; text-decoration: none; font-size: 35px; }
We have set the above style for the
<nav> <a href="#">Tutorials</a> <a href="#">point</a> </nav>
Now let’s see the complete example of adding an inline block element with spaces -
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Inline block elements</title> <style> nav a { display: inline-block; background: blue; color: white; text-decoration: none; font-size: 35px; } </style> </head> <body> <h1>The inline-block elements</h1> <p>Below are the inline-block elements with space:</p> <nav> <a href="#">Tutorials</a> <a href="#">point</a> </nav> </body> </html>
We can use the font-size attribute to remove spaces between inline block elements. The font-size attribute affects the size of an element's text. The following are possible values -
xx-small - Sets the size of the element text to be smaller than the size produced by the x-small value.
x-small - Sets the size of the element text to be smaller than the size produced by the value small.
small - Sets the size of the element text to be smaller than the size produced by the median value.
medium - Sets the size of the element text to be less than the size produced by the value large and greater than the size produced by the value small.
李>large - Sets the element's text to a size larger than the median result.
x-large - Sets the size of the element text to be larger than the size produced by the value large.
xx-large - Sets the size of the element text to be larger than the size produced by the value xlarge.
larger - Sets the element's text to be larger than the text of its parent element.
smaller - Sets the element's text to be smaller than the text of its parent element.
length - any allowed length value. font-size does not allow negative length values.
Percent - Sets the text size of an element relative to its parent element.
Now let’s see an example of removing spaces between inline block elements -
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Inline block elements without space</title> <style> nav { font-size: 0; } nav a { display: inline-block; background: blue; color: white; text-decoration: none; font-size: 35px; } </style> </head> <body> <h1>The inline-block elements</h1> <p>Below are the inline-block elements without space:</p> <nav> <a href="#">Tutorials</a> <a href="#">point</a> </nav> </body> </html>
We can use the margin-right property to remove the space between inline block elements -
<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Inline block elements without space</title> <style> nav a { display: inline-block; background: blue; margin-right: -4px; color: white; text-decoration: none; font-size: 35px; } </style> </head> <body> <h1>The inline-block elements</h1> <p>Below are the inline-block elements without space:</p> <nav> <a href="#">Tutorials</a> <a href="#">point</a> </nav> </body> </html>
