At today’s iPhone 15 event, Apple launched an additional feature for emergency SOS via satellite, called Roadside Assistance via Satellite. The feature is similar to Emergency SOS, but it allows iPhone users to contact roadside assistance if they experience car trouble in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Roadside assistance via satellite is available on iPhone 15 models, but it is also a feature retroactively available on the iPhone 14 series. In the United States, roadside assistance is provided through a partnership with AAA.
The feature is included with AAA membership, but Apple says iPhone users can also access it individually. The company didn't provide cost details without AAA membership, but AAA starts at $65 per year.
Like emergency SOS via satellite, you can text roadside assistance and select what you need help with. Options on display at the event include flat tire, no fuel, locked up, vehicle stuck and vehicle not starting.
Apple is offering two years of satellite emergency SOS and roadside assistance via satellite for free with the purchase of iPhone 14 or iPhone 15. Note that with roadside assistance, you will need a satellite connection and pay an additional fee to AAA.
