1. The AI era has really arrived
With the outbreak of Chat GPT, the AI era has really arrived.
When Bill Gates experienced GPT for the first time, he thought it was the most important technological advancement since the graphical user interface.
Such technological progress will have a huge impact on our lives and even society. Perhaps in the future we will be unable to imagine a world without AI, just as we cannot imagine life without the Internet now.
AI will bring about earth-shaking changes. When the wave comes, we will feel anxious: What changes will artificial intelligence bring? How should we respond?
2. Two major issues in corporate talent development under the artificial intelligence revolution
The current key issue is how to cultivate the capabilities required by corporate talents under the artificial intelligence revolution and how to cultivate capabilities. Solving these two major problems will bring many effective solutions to corporate development, business growth and employee performance.
1.What abilities should be cultivated?
① Two major categories of abilities
In daily life, abilities have various dimensions. It is divided into two categories, one is soft ability and the other is hard ability.
As long as you can add XX division or XX director after the ability, it is most likely a hard ability, such as data analyst, data analysis director, etc.
If you are unable to add XX division, they usually have soft abilities. For example, there is no communicator or emotional intelligence director. Soft abilities are like muscles and hard abilities are like bones. Only with a skeleton can the whole person be supported. Without muscle support, the skeleton cannot function, so we cannot complete tasks, especially complex tasks.
After distinguishing, let’s look at the impact and changes that AI will bring to different abilities.
We asked GPT-4: "Today, with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, in order to be successful, what abilities should companies focus on cultivating employees? Please rank them in order of importance."
GPT lists 9 abilities, 7 of which are soft abilities: adaptability and learning, communication, teamwork, creativity, emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships, critical thinking, and project management abilities. There are only two hard abilities: data analysis and technical proficiency.
Then, we went on to ask the second question: "Please rank 20 human abilities in order of difficulty of replacement. Artificial intelligence cannot replace them." ”
Answers should demonstrate emotional intelligence, empathy, creativity, adaptability, social skills, leadership, insight, and cross-cultural communication skills. None of them are hard abilities, they are all soft abilities.
But just looking at what AI says is not enough. Real data research is required. McKinsey has conducted a global survey on important future capabilities. Divide this concept into two dimensions: the horizontal axis represents capabilities that are currently considered important, and the vertical axis represents capabilities that are expected to be more important in the future.
The chart shows that abilities such as leadership, communication, critical thinking, entrepreneurship and adaptability are already important now and will become even more important in the future. Most of the ability axes are soft abilities, and there are only two hard abilities (high-level IT and technical design).
We also serve many of the world's top companies. Through studying a large amount of data, we found that the abilities that global customers have cultivated the most in the past two years are communication, emotional intelligence, leadership, self-management and interpersonal relationships.
② What abilities should be cultivated in the AI era?
Whether it is AI or data research, the conclusion is very clear. Under the AI intelligent revolution, corporate talent development should mainly focus on two major directions: comprehensively strengthening the cultivation of unique human soft abilities, and mastering and applying AI (AI will simplify/replace many hard abilities).
The first is hard ability. Many abilities in hard abilities will be changed, simplified, or even replaced by AI. In the future, "AI" is a major trend.
Therefore, everyone needs to cultivate the ability to use AI. How to use AI can make hard capabilities more powerful.
The second is soft ability. The difference between people lies in the difference in soft abilities. Enterprises will have increasingly higher requirements for soft capabilities. In order to win in the future competition, as an enterprise, we need to comprehensively improve the level of soft ability training of employees.
2. How to develop abilities?
There is a very interesting phenomenon. The people who have studied learning and behavior change the most deeply and thoroughly are not experts in the industry, but a group of AI scientists.
They have been thinking about how to make AI reach the level of human intelligence or even surpass it. They study how people think and calculate, how they reason and summarize, and even how they create.
This brings us back to the most important part of the human body - the brain. Many of the hard abilities are cognitive abilities, and many of the soft abilities are behavioral abilities.
But our learning of cognitive abilities and behavioral abilities are completely different in terms of how we use our brains. We use the prefrontal cortex for cognitive abilities and the more ancient and primitive subcortical part of the brain and dopamine for behavioral abilities.
When we learn different abilities, the design learning process and learning content are also different.
In hard skills, it requires a high degree of concentration and the use of short-term memory capabilities. When learning hard skills, it is often deductive teaching, such as telling you how to say a word, or telling you 1 1 = 2, so that you can master the truth and information in a short period of time.
At the same time, when learning hard skills, we place great emphasis on immediate application. For example, exams are an immediate application of cognitive abilities.
In China’s education, most of the education focuses on cognitive abilities, such as Chinese and history, and the mastery of knowledge points is confirmed through examinations.
But soft abilities are completely different, because soft abilities are essentially behavioral abilities, and they emphasize long-term and effective behavioral changes. The most typical example is riding a bicycle. No one can learn to ride a bicycle just by listening to audio or watching videos, or doing exam questions.
A good learning method is that we keep trying and correcting mistakes. Learning is not based on reasoning, but learning through inductive heuristics. For example, if you give a scene to experience, results and feedback will be generated after simulation.
There will be good and bad results in the students' understanding of the whole thing, their attempts, and the final feedback they receive. This releases dopamine, which creates something like muscle memory. When he faced this situation again, he would know what to do.
When you see a car in front of you, you press the brakes. If you see a turn ahead, you will turn and wait.
After we complete this behavior in different environments, our behavior will slowly change.
Therefore, soft power is very important to our future. But now, everyone is cultivating soft abilities in the same way as hard abilities.
For example, online learning currently only has two forms on the market: watching videos and answering exam questions. Once users finish watching the video, they will learn three essential knowledge for good managers. After completing the exercises, the course study is over. This kind of learning is fundamentally very inefficient or even ineffective. Because it does not conform to the principle of people learning and mastering soft abilities.
3. Growth Map
In the past, Chinese companies only needed basic organization, innovation and capabilities to achieve large-scale development. As the current stage gradually passes, we are facing an increasingly complex environment and increasing challenges, and our expectations and requirements for talents are also getting higher and higher.
Under the revolution of artificial intelligence, the problems faced by human beings are becoming more and more complex. Enterprises should focus on cultivating unique soft abilities of human beings in a more scientific, systematic and lifelong manner.
As long as we find the direction and use the right methods, we will definitely be able to bring more effective development to every employee of the company in the AI era.
