On May 29th, MX Linux developers announced that the public test of the MX Linux 23 "Libretto" version Beta has been fully launched.
MX Linux 23 will be based on the Debian 12 "Bookworm" operating system series, adopt the Linux 6.1 LTS kernel series long-term support version, and use sysVinit as the default init system, and provide Xfce 4.18, KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS and Fluxbox 1.3.7 Desktop environment.
There are also new features in the MX Linux 23 release, including support for swap files in the installer and defaulting to the "regular" autoinstall method, support for PipeWire and WirePlumber to manage audio instead of PulseAudio, and the nala command -line APT frontend serves as the default backend for MX Updater.
The Fluxbox release has been updated with a number of new configuration options, a special "appfinder" configuration for the Rofi file manager that replaces xfce4-appfinder, and support for Fluxbox theming using the MX Tweak theme module.
Among other noteworthy changes, MX Linux 23 brings more visible "check media" functionality to the live boot menu and many updated MX applications, with various bug fixes and enhancements , e.g. supports launching them using separate policy toolkit configurations.
The Debian 12 “Bookworm” operating system series will be released on June 10, 2023, with the final version of MX Linux 23 to follow.
