微软 CBL-Mariner 的 Linux 发行版 Azure Linux 现已上线

News on May 28, after two years of internal testing, Microsoft launched the Azure Linux public preview in October 2022 and publicly launched its release this week Version. Azure Linux, the open source container host operating system (OS) for Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), is now generally available.

According to reports, Azure Linux is a Linux distribution of Microsoft's CBL-Mariner. It supports the container host operating system as AKS. It is currently in use with Xbox, Playfab, Minecraft and other services and more than 100 Azure services. .

Jim Perrin, Microsoft's principal program manager for Azure Linux, said that Microsoft started CBL-Mariner because it needed an internal Linux distribution and a consistent platform to support the countless workloads engineers run on Azure, and Azure Linux Can be deployed in the cloud and run multiple containers.

Users can now deploy Azure Linux as the node pool host operating system in an AKS cluster and build applications on top of their preferred containers.

Microsoft is now announcing the expansion of use of AKS Container Host to all AKS customers. Azure Linux as the AKS host operating system provides better performance, improves the security posture of applications running on AKS clusters, and is optimized for running in Azure.

Azure Linux is optimized for AKS as a container host operating system, has smaller image sizes, presents a smaller attack surface, and relies on the same software supply chain used by Microsoft's internal engineering teams and services.

Additionally, AKS on Azure Stack HCI and AKS on Windows Server also have the same container hosts, providing consistency and simplified management in the cloud and edge.

According to reports, Azure Container Application is a fully managed application platform based on Kubernetes, used to build serverless modern applications, and is modeled on the microservice architecture pattern. Azure Container App Jobs, now in preview, will encapsulate all ad-hoc tasks that need to be run asynchronously and executed to completion, such as data processing, data migration, repetitive tasks such as daily sales profiles, etc. Jobs can be scheduled, event-driven, or run on demand.

These new features in Azure Container Apps will also enable smaller executables in complex jobs to run in parallel, making it easier for unattended batch jobs to run alongside core business logic. The three types of jobs that can be configured in Azure Container Applications include:

  • On-demand jobs: Single-purpose API calls, driven by the user or code.
  • Scheduled work: long-running tasks that are triggered and completed according to the scheduler.
  • Event-driven jobs: Resource-intensive tasks triggered by events can now be compute optimized to realize potential savings by using optimized instance configurations based on the Kubernetes Event-Driven Autoscaler (KEDA).
