Webmaster’s Home (ChinaZ.com) News on June 5: Dumme is a startup backed by Y Combinator that has been using AI to convert longer YouTube videos into shorter ones. Short video. The company has hundreds of video creators testing its product and a pre-launch waitlist of more than 20,000.
Using Dumme is very simple. First, the user pastes a link to a YouTube video, then clicks "Generate," and the AI will output some short videos showcasing the highlights of the ingested content. The company says it uses YouTube as a source, rather than favoring raw video clips, in order to outsource content moderation — that is, if YouTube allows it, so does Dumme.
Processing time and the number of clips generated will depend on the length of the original video. For example, an hour-long video podcast might take about 20 minutes to process, and you'll receive the edited video in about five minutes. Once completed, creators can download video clips, which default to less than 60 seconds, and upload them to any platform that supports short-form content, such as YouTube Shorts, as well as other platforms such as Reels or TikTok.
Dumme claims it saves editing time and does a better job than humans, who typically take on more menial video editing tasks. Dumme is initially targeting YouTube creators, podcasters, and agencies.
The company is considering pricing tiers in which businesses would pay $0.40 per minute of video processed, while creators might opt for a monthly subscription of 10 hours of content.
Dumme raised $3.4 million in seed funding from Y Combinator, Caffeinated Capital, Max and Nellie Levchin via SciFi VC, Suhail Doshi, Nico Chinot, Protocol Labs, Chris Puscasiu and other angel investors.
The integration of artificial intelligence in video editing can lead to a more efficient and effective video creation process. AI can analyze large amounts of data to identify patterns and create personalized content, resulting in more accurate and engaging videos. As AI technology continues to develop, it may eventually replace the need for human video editors, causing a shift in the job market.
