According to news on June 5, in May this year, Google launched an experimental feature called Search Generated Experience (SGE), which uses Google’s artificial intelligence system to summarize search results for users. This way users don’t have to click on a bunch of links, and Google will directly tell them the information they want to know. In theory, this means that users' search queries can be more complex and natural, while Google is still able to answer users' questions. How is your experience with this feature? Foreign media TheVerge conducted a test.
TheVerge tested SGE for several days and found that it has the following problems. IT House compiled the following:
- SGE It can be annoying to wait several seconds for an answer to appear. While waiting, a blank colored box will appear on the screen with a loading animation inside. When the search results finally load, the colored box expands and Google's summary pops up, pushing down the list of links below. The editor of TheVerge said that he really dislikes waiting for this process. If it were not for testing, he would probably scroll the page immediately and click on the link directly.
- SGE's responses are often lengthy and confusing. For example, when searching for "Where can I watch Ted Russo?", the AI-generated answer was two paragraphs long, and the answer was correct that it can be watched on Apple TV, which costs $6.99 per month. But there is a lot of redundancy in the answers. On the desktop version, Google will display cards with source information on the right, but users cannot easily tell which information comes from which sources. On mobile, the card appears below the summary text.
When asked "Where can I buy Tears of the Kingdom?" the results are a mess, with huge sponsor cards and a confusing list of suggested retail stores displayed above the results, click There will be no game list at the end, but a Google map that pinpoints these retail stores. There are three link cards on the right where you can find ways to purchase the game. Searching for a used red iPhone 13 Mini isn’t much better.
- SGE sometimes fails and fails to generate answers even for some of the most popular search terms, such as "YouTube", "Amazon", "Wordle", Terms like "Twitter" and "Roblox" both returned an error message: "AI Overview is not available for this search." Terms like "Facebook," "Gmail," "Apple" and "Netflix" all showed up. SGE formatted answers, but the results also took a long time to display.
To sum up, TheVerge believes that SGE does not bring a better search experience, but instead makes people feel annoyed and a waste of time.
The above is the detailed content of Google search integrates AI functions, but is criticized for being slow and providing lengthy answers. For more information, please follow other related articles on the PHP Chinese website!
