WWDC 2023 If the rumors are true, Apple will take the opportunity to launch its highly anticipated AR/VR headset.
While we don’t know much about the headset, display analyst Ross Young has expressed his opinion on the headset’s display specs.
According to Young, these are the high-level highlights: 4K micro organic light-emitting diodes; 1.41 inches; density of 4,000 pixels per inch; brightness of over 5,000 nits.
This is obviously a very high-end monitor. 4K resolution means Apple's headset should be sharper than the competition. For example, the Meta Quest Pro 2 has a resolution of 1800 x 1920 pixels, giving a pixel density of approximately 1200 pixels per eye.
The brightness level is also interesting, as existing headsets only top out around 500 nits. The Meta Quest 2 only has about 100 nits of brightness, while Sony's PSVR2 has about 265 nits of brightness. Microsoft's HoloLens 2 performs better with its 500 nits of brightness.
Young explained that 5,000 nits of brightness may allow Apple to deliver better contrast, more vivid colors and highlights than any other headset on the market today.
