Today, Opera browser announced that they are testing an AI sidebar feature called Aria. OpenAI's ChatGPT drives this functionality, with the ability to generate text, write code, answer questions, and more. This innovation will provide users with a smarter, more convenient web experience and is being hailed by Opera as a breakthrough in browsers.
According to Opera’s official website, users can click on the Aria icon located in the left sidebar of the browser to interact with it. Unlike regular ChatGPT chatbots, Opera's browser AI can get the latest information from the web and is familiar with all the support documentation for the Opera browser to answer user questions about the browser itself.
The launch of Aria builds on some of Opera’s already existing AI features. IT House previously reported that as early as February this year, Opera added ChatGPT to its sidebar, which can generate a summary of the web pages or articles currently visited by the user. In addition, Opera also launched the AI prompts function, which provides shortcuts to different AI tools based on the web page the user is on or the selected text. These tools include summary generation, creating tweets based on what you read, explaining specific concepts, and more.
The new version of Opera’s sidebar has some similarities with Microsoft’s upgrade of the AI function of the Edge browser. Not only has Microsoft integrated the Bing AI chatbot and OpenAI's DALL-E image generator into the Edge browser, it's also announced that it's bringing its AI-powered Microsoft 365 Copilot to the browser as well.
Currently, users can only access Opera's AI sidebar by downloading the latest developer version of Opera One on desktop or the latest Opera beta on Android. After registering an account, Opera will subsequently notify the user when the feature will be available.
