IT Home News on May 22, TrendForce released a report today, predicting that global VR and AR equipment shipments will total 7.45 million units in 2023, a year-on-year decrease of 18.2%. Among them, VR equipment experienced the largest decline, with shipments of approximately 6.67 million units. This was mainly due to the fact that the sales of new high-end equipment were not as good as expected, and subsequent brands will also shift their sales focus back to low-priced products. AR performance was flat, with shipments of approximately 780,000 units. Apple’s new products can temporarily support some demand, but due to the high unit price of the products, they are still unable to effectively promote the growth of the AR market.
TrendForce said there are two main reasons for the decline in VR equipment shipments this year. One is that brands are overly optimistic about the sales of high-end products. Hardware and software specification upgrades do have more features, but consumers are not willing to pay high prices to purchase them. , on the contrary, they will turn to low-priced entry-level products with functions sufficient to meet basic needs. This consumption model will also force brand manufacturers to shift their sales focus this year back to low-priced models. Second, there is no new low-priced model to attract consumers. Since Meta Quest 3 is expected to be postponed to 2024, Meta Quest 2 will still be the main product in the VR market this year.
TrendForce said that it is currently expected that Apple will launch new products as scheduled in 2023. However, since the new products are mainly aimed at developers, the specifications, functions and prices will increase simultaneously, and production will be more difficult, so this year should still be as expected. Focusing on sales, shipments are estimated to be less than 100,000 units, and the overall output may only reach 300,000 units. Its contribution to the AR market will be limited. The AR device market will only be able to expand after more consumer AR products are launched.
TrendForce believes that the development process of the VR and AR equipment market will be limited from 2023 to 2025. It is expected that the VR and AR market will only see significant growth in 2025, with the annual growth rate of shipments likely to be nearly 40%.
IT House previously reported that at WWDC to be held in June, Apple is expected to release its much-anticipated head display "Reality Pro" with virtual reality and augmented reality functions, and will also release the basic software of the product. platform, the software will be called xrOS and marks Apple's first major new software platform since launching watchOS for the Apple Watch.
The above is the detailed content of TrendForce: VR/AR market is sluggish, Apple's new products are hard to save. For more information, please follow other related articles on the PHP Chinese website!
