As a programmer, using Github has become part of my daily work. However, as I work, I find that I dislike using Github less and less. Even though Github is one of the most popular code hosting platforms in the world, I don’t think Github is for everyone. Below I’ll explain why I don’t like using Github.

First, the learning cost of GitHub is relatively high. GitHub is a large and complex platform that can be difficult to use if you're not familiar with how it works. GitHub also has a lot of details like merge requests, branch management, issue tracking, and more. You need to spend a lot of time and effort learning how to use these features, otherwise you will hardly benefit from them.

Second, the interactive experience of GitHub is not very good. On GitHub, to get other people's feedback on your code, you need to initiate a "merge request", wait for Code Review, and then make a series of modifications. In this process, you need to constantly ask others for help and wait for them to respond to your emails and comments. This type of process can easily become unsaleable because it has no clear progression and often takes a long time to complete.

Third, GitHub has a certain emotional color. The use of GitHub has also been influenced by its presence in the open source community. Although there are a large number of projects and programmers on the GitHub platform, the entire community has always debated around some technical issues and open source ideas. This also leads to the need to be particularly cautious when creating a project or open source a library on the platform. Otherwise, if you are not recognized by the community, you may be labeled as "boring", "incompetent", etc.

So, I don’t think GitHub is for everyone. If you're trying to have a simple personal website or a small project, using GitHub might feel less than ideal. For these applications, it's better to use more lightweight tools like GitLab or Bitbucket, which have simpler and easier-to-use interfaces.

In my opinion, the Github platform has advantages in many aspects, but also has many shortcomings that may prevent it from becoming the first choice for developers to work. Therefore, before using GitHub, it is recommended to experiment with lightweight tools and decide for yourself whether to use them. Beyond that, when you're clear about GitHub's strengths and weaknesses, you can use the platform more effectively to achieve your goals and challenge your skills.
